Rockfall and slope protection in Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Middle East and Africa
We work from Ankara across the regions that Türkiye reaches by road, rail and sea. This page shows where we have built, what we supply from our own factory and how a project abroad runs, from the first site survey to maintenance.
What we do abroad
- Site survey and measurement: joint sets, block sizes and the slope profile, with drone photogrammetry and laser scanning.
- Design: trajectory and energy analysis, the barrier line, anchored mesh and drapery, and specifications written against EAD 340059 and EAD 230025.
- Our own manufacturing: double-twist hexagonal mesh, steel ring net panels, and gabions and mattresses, shipped from Türkiye.
- Certified systems: rockfall barriers and anchored high-tensile mesh are certified kits with a European Technical Assessment (ETA). Artusa is Geobrugg AG's representative in Türkiye; outside Türkiye the kit is procured through the manufacturer's channel in that country, and we design, install and maintain it.
- Installation and handover: rope-access installation, anchor pull-out testing, the barrier ID tag and a maintenance plan.
Where we have built
Outside Türkiye we have installed systems in Oman, Ghana, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Somalia. In Oman and the other Gulf states, projects are run by our sister company Artusa Oman in Sohar.
Central Asia
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Mountain roads and passes such as the Kamchik Pass in Uzbekistan face rockfall, landslides, debris flows and avalanches, and development banks finance road resilience work across the region. We deliver from Türkiye by road and rail through the Caucasus and across the Caspian, and work alongside the main contractor on slope and rockfall packages.
The Caucasus
Georgia and Azerbaijan. New mountain highways and tunnels are under construction, several of them by Turkish contractors. We work as the slope protection partner of the main contractor: rock scaling, drapery, anchored mesh and barrier lines along cuts and portals.
The Middle East
Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt. Mountain roads in the Kurdistan Region, the Asir highlands of Saudi Arabia and the Hajar mountains of Oman need rockfall protection along cuts and wadis. Gulf projects are run by Artusa Oman; the rest are handled from Ankara.
The Balkans and North Africa
Romania, Albania, Algeria and Morocco. Motorways and mountain roads with tunnels and deep cuts, several built by Turkish contractors, need slope stabilization and rockfall protection during construction and in service.
West and East Africa
Ghana and the other ECOWAS countries, and Somalia. We have installed systems in Ghana and Somalia; mesh and gabions are shipped by sea from Türkiye.
How a project abroad runs
- First assessment: send photos, the location and a short description through the contact form or WhatsApp; we reply with the likely hazard and system options.
- Site survey: we measure the slope and the joint sets and record the block sizes.
- Design and quantities: trajectory and energy analysis, system selection, drawings and a bill of quantities.
- Supply: our own products are shipped from Türkiye; certified kits are procured through the manufacturer's channel in the country.
- Installation: rope-access teams, anchor pull-out tests and coordination with the main contractor.
- Handover and maintenance: as-built record, barrier ID tag and an inspection plan. See inspection and maintenance.
