A flexible barrier that stops a near-surface soil slide on the slope: SL-150 with spiral rope net for a maximum dynamic pressure of 150 kN/m², SL-100 with TECCO G65/4 mesh for 100 kN/m² (manufacturer data). It needs no site infrastructure and no heavy machinery.
What it does
A shallow landslide is the sliding of the topsoil layer down the slope after it becomes saturated in heavy rain; unlike rockfall it is not a single block but a spread-out mass coming from a wide surface. The SL barrier meets this mass on the slope, on a line close to the protected asset: the net surface takes the dynamic pressure of the slide and the force goes to the anchors through the ropes and braking elements. The structure is flexible and light; it needs neither heavy machinery nor site infrastructure, so it can be installed on slopes with difficult access.

The manufacturer tested the systems against multiple load scenarios in field tests and simulations carried out with WSL and developed the SHALLSLIDE dimensioning tool from the results. Dimensioning is done with this tool together with the manufacturer; the inputs are measured on site.
What is measured during the survey
Thickness and area of the layer that can slide, slope angle, soil type and saturation behaviour, traces of past slides, distance to the protected asset, anchor ground. Installation and maintenance
Anchor drilling and grouting, posts and support ropes, net panels and braking elements are installed according to the manufacturer's installation manual; at acceptance, rope clips, braking elements and anchor heads are checked. After an event the material behind the net is emptied and an opened braking element is replaced; the record is entered on the line's barrier tag: inspection, maintenance and service life.
