TECCO® SYSTEM3 anchored slope stabilization

TECCO mesh, woven from high-tensile steel wire (≥ 1,770 N/mm²), holds the slope actively together with system plates and soil or rock nails. G65/3 mesh: 3 mm wire, 83 × 143 mm diamond mesh, 150 kN/m tensile strength; dimensioned with RUVOLUM.

What it does

TECCO SYSTEM3 is an anchored mesh system: a mesh woven from high-tensile steel wire is pressed onto soil or rock nails with diamond-shaped system plates and holds the slope surface actively. That is the difference from unanchored drapery: drapery slows a block down and brings it to the toe, the anchored mesh prevents it from breaking out. It is used on soil slopes, on weathered and loosened rock, and on bedded and jointed rock; the open mesh allows full-surface greening.

The system is a Geobrugg AG product; Artusa has been Geobrugg's representative in Türkiye since 2009. Drilling, nails, grouting and installation are done by our own crews.

Components

ComponentData (manufacturer's technical documentation)
TECCO G65/3 mesh3 mm wire, tensile strength ≥ 1,770 N/mm², single-twist diamond mesh 83 × 143 mm, mesh tensile strength 150 kN/m, aluminium-zinc coating (GEOBRUGG SUPERCOATING)
Other mesh typesTECCO G45/2, TECCO G65/4
System plates (spike plates)P25/34, P33/40, P33/50, P66/50; diamond-shaped, sit in the mesh opening and tension the mesh when tightened on the nail
NailSoil or rock nail (GEWI D 28 mm in the example design, with a 4 mm corrosion allowance deducted)
Edge ropesOptional; reinforce the edge areas, tensioned to lateral rope anchors

In the manufacturer's comparison, the longitudinal tensile strength of an ordinary wire mesh with the same opening and wire diameter is 45 – 50 kN/m; the difference is that the force can be transferred to the nail at an economical nail spacing.

Working principle and dimensioning

The rows of nails are offset by half the horizontal spacing; this limits the largest local mass that can break out between two nails to a width "a" and a length "2b". Dimensioning follows the RUVOLUM concept: sliding parallel to the surface (along the slope) and local instability between the nails are checked separately; earthquake and flow parallel to the slope are treated as load cases in separate sections.

The three bearing resistances of the mesh were determined by testing (under the supervision of LGA Nürnberg):

ResistanceMeaning
ZRResistance to point tension parallel to the slope
DRResistance to puncturing in the direction of the nail
PRResistance to shearing by the sliding mass at the plate edge

In the manufacturer's example calculation (G65/3 + P33 plate, GEWI 28 nail, cohesionless soil γ = 22 kN/m³): PR = 90 kN, design value PR/γ = 60 kN; pretension V = 30 kN; tensile resistance of the nail 226 kN, shear resistance 131 kN. These values are an example; every slope is dimensioned with its own measurements. EAD 230025-00-0106 (flexible facing systems) asks for measured numbers: class tables are informative, the inputs to the calculation are the measured zk, ZR, DR and PR values.

Greening

The surface is greened with an erosion control mat under the mesh or integrated into it. TECMAT: polypropylene mat with an irregular loop structure, 18 mm, ~600 g/m², void ratio > 95 %. TECCO GREEN (mat integrated into the mesh, G65/3): 14 mm, ~400 g/m², voids > 90 %, roll 3.9 × 25 m, 200 kg. Details: TECCO GREEN (Turkish).

Installation and acceptance

Sequence: slope scaling, nail drilling and grouting, unrolling the mesh rolls from top to bottom, joining the panels without overlap with connection clips, tightening the plates on the nails to pretension the mesh; edge ropes if needed. At acceptance, plate seating and nut torque, number and length of nails, mesh joints, edge rope tension and, where the specification requires it, the nail pull-out test record are checked; the result is entered on the line's barrier tag. The specification text is ready on the anchored slope stabilization specification (Turkish) page.
